Krapperup Castle

Krapperup Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the city of Helsingborg that is also a very famous landmark in the city.

The castle is one of the oldest and powerful mansions in Scania that dates back to the 1200s. Farms and villages around Scania, including Arild and Mölle, were governed by Krapperup. Over the centuries, the castle has been possessed by many Danish and Swedish families.

The castle was used as an estate once and many of the buildings are still used in different ways. Kullens Konstförening (Art Association) hall is located in the old stables, which organizes art and handicraft exhibitions every year, in conjunction with Konstrundan (Art Circuit). The old cow shed is used as a music hall that hosts the music week during July every year. Apart from these, other cultural events like theatre performances and concerts are also held during summer.

The castle has beautiful gardens around, which are open to public all year round. The beautiful red castle is surrounded by rose beds, perennial beds, box plantations and many rhododendrons. A small goldfish pond near the Sound is a major attraction at the place. The place is visited by many tourists all through the year.

 

Sofiero Castle

Sofiero-CastleOne of the Swedish royal family’s country mansions, Sofiero Palace is located in the city of Helsingborg. Originally a Scanian farm, it was bought by Prince Oscar and his wife Sophia in 1864 and expanded to its current size in 1874-76. Oscar II's grandchild, Gustaf VI Adolf received the palace as a wedding gift in 1905 and renovated the palace, and designed the rhododendron garden.

The royal official residence later became a property of Helsingborg and has been used to hold art exhibitions and concerts since then. The palace is now known for its beautiful rhododendron gardens and is also used as a restaurant, café and gallery. The castle is one of the famous landmarks in the city and is also one of the most visited places.

The palace is open to visitors from April to September. The visitors can have a stroll in the park for free from September 27 to April 10. Located 5km from Pålsjö Skog, Sofiero Castle hosts several interesting exhibitions, events and concerts. A wonderful collection of flowers is also one of the major attractions at the palace.

Many events are held during summer and the different exhibitions change the look of the gardens frequently, making it the most desirable place to be visited. Bus service is available several times an hour that shuttles from Helsingborg. The 500 different varieties of rhododendrons and a collection of modern art are the major attractions at the palace.

 

Dunkers Kulturhus

Dunkers-KulturhusDunkers Kulturhus or The Henry Dunker Culture Centre is an architectural masterpiece and is located in the centre of Helsingborg. It is a centre for rotating exhibitions that displays views over the Sound and its culture. One of the many popular and permanent exhibitions is the “Municipal rapture” that is appreciated by the masses.

The spacious building designed by architect Kim Utzon is used to hold art exhibitions, dance, concerts, music, debate, theatre and many other events. The museum shop offers unusual rubber designs too. The added attraction is that the visitors can interact with the exhibits by writing or building. Children’s exhibitions provide information about regional history, festivals, customs and traditions along with ghost stories.

The art exhibition centre was funded by Henry Dunker, a businessman, and is named after him. It offers creative theatre for children and regular lectures on various subjects for the adults. Different concerts and music are also performed at Dunkers Kulturhus. The brilliant architecture and a plethora of opportunities offered by the art centre makes it one of the most frequented places.

The art centre is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am – 5pm and till 8pm on Thursdays. It remains closed on Mondays but the ticket office is open. Admission to the building, gallery openings, the gift shop and Faktarummet is free. Admission to the exhibitions is charged and includes public guided tours. The charges are:

Adult: SEK 70 per person
Children (up to 18): free
Seniors: SEK 50 per person
Students: SEK 35 per person
Groups of 10 or more: SEK 50 per person
Annual pass: SEK 350 per person

 

Karnan

KarnanKärnan is a medieval tower in Helsingborg that is also one of the most significant landmarks in the city. It is known as Kärnan in Sweden and as Kernen in Denmark, where the name means “The Core”. The tower is the remains of a Danish fortress that kept a check on the entranceway to the Baltic Sea.

Archaeological records trace the structure to the early 13th century when it held the position of the most important fortress in Denmark, along with playing an integral part in acquiring control over the channel between Zealand and Scania. The place holds utmost acrheaological importance and is one of the strongest fortifications of that time.

The view from the tower is magnificent and walking up all the way to the top is extremely rewarding. The entire city can be viewed from the top of the tower and it is open for visitors. Sunsets are enjoyed most from the tower top, along with the beautiful view of the Øresund. Located near Slottshagen, it is a famous landmark and one of the most visited places in the region.

 

Oresund Park and Museum of Art

Oresund-Park-and-Museum-of-Helsingborg is a fabulous tourist destination in the Skane County, Sweden. Öresund Park and Museum of Art is one of the most famous places of interest in the city. It is visited by a great number of tourists every year and is a popular landmark in the city. The city offers several attractive spots to the tourists that include churches, parks, gardens and museums.

The museum of art is located in the northern part of the city and houses a collection of ancient and modern works. The rare artistic collections are admirable and are of special interest to the art aficionados. The portrait of Descartes is one of the major attractions in the museum that was created by Frans Hals.

The Öresund Park was initially used as a spa and comprised of Sophia Spring during the earlier days. The spa care was known as Halsan meaning ‘health’. Öresund Park and Museum of Art is visited by a considerable quantity of tourists every year and holds great significance.

A trip to the city would be rendered incomplete without a visit to the museum of art. On the whole, a visit to Öresund Park is a memorable affair and an enriching experience.
