Karnan

KarnanKärnan is a medieval tower in Helsingborg that is also one of the most significant landmarks in the city. It is known as Kärnan in Sweden and as Kernen in Denmark, where the name means “The Core”. The tower is the remains of a Danish fortress that kept a check on the entranceway to the Baltic Sea.

Archaeological records trace the structure to the early 13th century when it held the position of the most important fortress in Denmark, along with playing an integral part in acquiring control over the channel between Zealand and Scania. The place holds utmost acrheaological importance and is one of the strongest fortifications of that time.

The view from the tower is magnificent and walking up all the way to the top is extremely rewarding. The entire city can be viewed from the top of the tower and it is open for visitors. Sunsets are enjoyed most from the tower top, along with the beautiful view of the Øresund. Located near Slottshagen, it is a famous landmark and one of the most visited places in the region.
