One of the Swedish royal family’s country mansions, Sofiero Palace is located in the city of Helsingborg. Originally a Scanian farm, it was bought by Prince Oscar and his wife Sophia in 1864 and expanded to its current size in 1874-76. Oscar II's grandchild, Gustaf VI Adolf received the palace as a wedding gift in 1905 and renovated the palace, and designed the rhododendron garden.
The royal official residence later became a property of Helsingborg and has been used to hold art exhibitions and concerts since then. The palace is now known for its beautiful rhododendron gardens and is also used as a restaurant, café and gallery. The castle is one of the famous landmarks in the city and is also one of the most visited places.
The palace is open to visitors from April to September. The visitors can have a stroll in the park for free from September 27 to April 10. Located 5km from Pålsjö Skog, Sofiero Castle hosts several interesting exhibitions, events and concerts. A wonderful collection of flowers is also one of the major attractions at the palace.
Many events are held during summer and the different exhibitions change the look of the gardens frequently, making it the most desirable place to be visited. Bus service is available several times an hour that shuttles from Helsingborg. The 500 different varieties of rhododendrons and a collection of modern art are the major attractions at the palace.
