Kulturen

KulturenKulturen is an open air museum in Lund, that is also the biggest museum in Skåne and the second oldest of its kind in the world. In order to preserve buildings, furniture, tools, clothes and other things belonging to the old peasant society, Georg Karlin founded the museum in 1892. The museum is located in the southernmost province of Sweden.

Kulturen has more than thirty buildings from different periods and locations, erected to depict the lifestyle of people who have lived and worked in Sweden through the ages. It also hosts several exhibitions to present arts and crafts from all over the world. Many other temporary exhibitions are also organized every year. The admission to these exhibitions costs 70 kr for adults and is free for children.

The museum provides an educational insight into different societies and their traditions and lifestyles. Night Hawker’s is an old fashioned grocery store that offers goods from the days gone by and is very popular among the tourists. Children’s workshop, the park and the restaurant are other added attractions.

Kulturkrogen is a shop located next to Kulturen that offers beautiful Swedish gifts and souvenirs. The park is popular among the children. The museum is open from 1 May- 31 August (every day) between 11 am – 6 pm, and from 1 September- 30 April (Tuesdays-Sundays) between 12-4 pm.

Drotten Church

Drotten-ChurchLund is a remarkable city with a rich medieval culture that dates back to the period 1000-1350 A.D. The Drotten Church is located on Lund’s Kattensund and is the ruins of the church that was once active. The ruins were excavated in 1984 and 1985. The church is now open to the public and attracts several tourists all through the year.

The remarkable church is in its ruins. The word Drotten means the ‘supreme ruler’. The church belonged to Denmark when the province of Scania was a part of it. In 1658, the part ceded formally to Sweden and the church became a part of the beautiful city of Lund.

The church was active for several hundreds of years in the southern Swedish city of Lund. The church has undergone many transformations from being a stave church to stone church. The transition to stone building has made the church compete in architecture with the Cathedral in Lund.

Although the site is open to public, the ruins of the church are preserved in an underground museum that is closed to the public. There are efforts being taken to make the ruins accessible to general public once again, with the development of Virtual Environments.

Bosjokloster

BosjoklosterBosjökloster Castle is situated on the shore of Lake Ringsjön in Höör and is an architectural masterpiece. It was founded by the Benedictine Order in 1080. Also known as Bosjö Abbey, it was transformed into a castle in the 16th century and what now remain are just parts of the original building.

The skillfully maintained castle is located 30 km north of Lund on Road 23. It is believed that the land was donated by the ancestor of the Scanian noble family, Tord Thott. It is conveniently located near the Skånes Djurpark, which is again a major tourist attraction in the area.

Fondly known as the “Pearl of the Ring Lakes”, Bosjökloster is a wonderful white building that shimmers in the sun between two lakes. The serenity of the building brings everything around to rest and calm. Even the people hurrying around don’t remain untouched by the enigmatic ambience created by the beautiful building.

The view over the water is hypnotizing and the silhouettes of the old trees and the walls fascinate the visitors with the history of the generations who have lived and worked there. The white building stands attractive surrounded by water and the midsummer haze and spring sun accentuates its beauty.
