Kulturen is an open air museum in Lund, that is also the biggest museum in Skåne and the second oldest of its kind in the world. In order to preserve buildings, furniture, tools, clothes and other things belonging to the old peasant society, Georg Karlin founded the museum in 1892. The museum is located in the southernmost province of Sweden.
Kulturen has more than thirty buildings from different periods and locations, erected to depict the lifestyle of people who have lived and worked in Sweden through the ages. It also hosts several exhibitions to present arts and crafts from all over the world. Many other temporary exhibitions are also organized every year. The admission to these exhibitions costs 70 kr for adults and is free for children.
The museum provides an educational insight into different societies and their traditions and lifestyles. Night Hawker’s is an old fashioned grocery store that offers goods from the days gone by and is very popular among the tourists. Children’s workshop, the park and the restaurant are other added attractions.
Kulturkrogen is a shop located next to Kulturen that offers beautiful Swedish gifts and souvenirs. The park is popular among the children. The museum is open from 1 May- 31 August (every day) between 11 am – 6 pm, and from 1 September- 30 April (Tuesdays-Sundays) between 12-4 pm.
