Lundagard

LundagardLund is a beautiful city to visit and offers a lot of opportunities to people with different tastes. Lundagård is a scenic park in the city that is located north of the Lund Cathedral. The park incidentally features prominently in the life of the Lund University. It is located between the Lund University and the Lund Cathedral with Kungshuset in between.

The park was a walled garden for a very long time. Its gate is now the entrance to the Kulturen museum. The beautiful park features other buildings also, including the AF Castle, Palaestra et Odeum and the Lund University Historical Museum.

The park houses the Kungshus (King's House) known as Lundagårdshus which was built in the 16th century. The building acted as the residence for the Danish king Frederick II. The King’s House was occupied by the Lund University till 1882 after which the present nearby buildings were built.
The history of the park is closely connected to the history of the city itself. Universitetsplatsen is the area between Kungshuset, Palaestra and the University building. Between the Historical Museum and the AF Castle lies the Tegnérsplatsen that features the statue of Esaias Tegnér.
