Lund is a beautiful city with a rich culture and several landmarks. The Cathedrals, Universities and Churches are the chief landmarks in the city. Mårtenstorget is a square in central Lund that is also one of the major landmarks in the city.
The square is the place of livestock trade in the city and was called the square Oxtorget in the olden days. The current name is derived from the medieval St Martin’s Church that governed the southwest of the square. The square is a busy place with many people thronging the place at any given time.
It dates back to 1842 and is now Lund market hall, Krognoshuset and Lunds Konsthall. Apart from these, the square also offers chief outlets of Domus Store, one of the savings bank offices and McDonald’s restaurant. The square is currently used as a local outlet from 6.30 to 14.00 hrs on weekdays and for parking at the other times.
One of the busiest areas in the city, Mårtenstorget is located south of Lund and is essentially a fruit, vegetable and flower market. The Art Gallery stands to the rear of the square that has a collection of modern Swedish art and exhibitions of periodic work by famous artists.
