Malmohus Castle

Malmohus CastleMalmöhus Castle or the Malmö castle is a fortress and one of Malmö’s most popular tourist attractions. The Swedish renaissance castle is a fortress that houses three museums including the City Museum, the Art Museum and the Natural History Museum. The castle was initially founded by King Eric of Pomerania in 1434, but it was demolished and rebuilt by King Christian III of Denmark in the 1530s.

The 16th century castle has been built in renaissance style and was used as a prison till 1914 before being opened as a museum in 1937. The recent modern additions to the castle give it a different look. The Malmöhus Castle has been used as a prison and fort before being used as a museum and is the oldest renaissance castle in Scandinavia.

The beautiful castle has a stream of water running along which increases the beauty manifold. The red castle building is a brilliant piece of architecture and worth being visited. The admission to the castle is charged and costs SKr 40 for adults, SKr 10 for children and SKr 20 for students. It is open daily from 12pm to 4pm for the months September through May, and from 10am to 2pm for the months June through August. It is located just east of the old town centre.
