Royal Danish Playhouse

Royal-Danish-PlayhouseThe Royal Danish Playhouse is situated on the harbor front in central Copenhagen. The Playhouse played a major role in the development of the waterfront into a recreational area that is as famous as the ones in other major cities of the world. The Playhouse acts as a building for the Royal Danish Theatre.

Designed by Lundgaard & Tranberg, a Danish architectural practice, the building was constructed to provide a venue for dramatic theatre. The architectural design of the building has been much appreciated and awarded. The building has been built in long deep brown and slim brick, specially developed for the project. The exteriors are however covered by glass.

The foyer runs along the entire length of the Playhouse and offers beautiful views of the harbor. A restaurant and a café adorn the foyer. A major part of the building projects over the water and the waterfront lets the pedestrians take a long walkway covered with oak planks, placed in a way to give a Venetian-style rustic look to the surroundings. The Playhouse was opened in February 2008 and offers a lot more than an ultimate theatrical experience.

The praiseworthy architecture of the building makes it a major tourist attraction in Copenhagen. It has two main auditoriums with 650 and 200 seats respectively and an additional 100 seats in the Studio Stage. The foyer and terrace are also used to host events, concerts and other activities.
