Stortorget

StortorgetStortorget is a public square locally known as The Big Square in Sweden. The place is located in Gamla Stan in the old part of Stockholm in Sweden. Being the oldest square in the town, it is the historical centre around which the urban collection grew gradually. The public square is one of the most visited places in the city and hosts demonstrations and performances.

Famously known for the annual Christmas market that offers handicrafts and food, the square gained popularity gradually and with time, unlike other European cities. Northern part of the square houses the Stock Exchange Building known as Börshuset. The Nobel Museum and the Nobel Library can be visited at the place too.

The square was initially a junction with criss-cross tracks which later developed into the current narrow streets. A pillory known as Kåken was located at the middle of the square. It is one of the main squares of Malmö and has beautiful old houses.

Stortorget is conveniently located near the ferry port and train station. It is also connected to other major shopping places through a pedestrian road. The architecture of the area is old rococo style and that adds to the rustic look of the place. The square is an ideal place to visit when touring Malmö.
